Your questions, answered.

When would I need to use Mobilegs crutches?

  • Whenever you are likely to need crutches for longer than a few days.
  • Recovering from an injury or a surgery.
  • For chronic issues with mobility.
  • You are between 4’9” to 6’4” tall, and weigh less than 300lbs.

What different crutches should I consider?

The main types of crutch are hands-free knee crutches, for ankle surgeries; forearm crutches that require constant application of weight to your hands; and underarm crutches. Until Mobilegs, underarm crutches were not forgiving to your body’s movement or tissues. But with Mobilegs, you now have the best of all worlds: a crutch that can be used comfortably and easily for any condition or procedure from the hip down.

How do I adjust my Mobilegs crutches to fit?

  1. Locate left and right-handed Mobilegs
  2. Locate the two sets of squeezable adjustment buttons, at the top and bottom of your Mobilegs.

Set arm length.

  1. Hold onto grip.
  2. Place saddle snug underarm, keeping shoulders relaxed.
  3. Arm comfortably bent at a slight 15-30 degree angle.
  4. Squeezing the buttons on the top of the crutch, adjust the height to fit until there is a half-inch space between your armpit and the saddle.

Set leg length.

Squeezing the buttons on the bottom of the crutch, adjust lower section to 6” in front of toe when leg is straight in standing position

Confirm final fit.

You should be able to put weight on your hands, with a slight 15-30 degree angle in your elbows. The height of the underarm saddle should sit just below your armpit.

What are the height and weight limits on Mobilegs?

Mobilegs are fully adjustable for people between 4’9” to 6’4” tall, and who weigh less than 300lbs.

How do I use Mobilegs?

Walking with Mobilegs crutches requires proper technique and balance to ensure safety and comfort. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to walk with crutches:

1. Adjust your Mobilegs.

Ensure that your Mobilegs are adjusted to your height. The handgrips should be at the level of your hip and the elbow slightly bent when you hold onto them.

2. Stand up.

Position the crutches on either side of your body.

Push yourself up using a stable surface or the assistance of a chair.

3. Hold your Mobilegs correctly.

Hold the handgrips with a firm grip.

Keep your elbows slightly bent for better control.

4. Move your Mobilegs and affected leg together.

Advance both crutches and the affected leg together.

Move the crutches a short distance in front of you, about a step's length.

5. Weight distribution.

Ensure that you do not put weight on the injured or weak leg.

Transfer your weight to the crutches while keeping the injured leg off the ground.

6. Swing through.

Swing the good leg through, landing it slightly ahead of the crutches.

Keep the affected leg elevated to avoid putting weight on it.

7. Repeat.

Repeat the process, advancing the crutches and the good leg while keeping the injured leg off the ground.

8. Take small steps.

Take small, controlled steps to maintain balance and prevent accidents.

9. Practice.

Practice walking with crutches in a safe and open space until you feel comfortable and stable.

Tips.

Always look forward while walking, not down at your feet.

Avoid uneven or slippery surfaces.

If you need to turn, pivot on the good foot while keeping the injured leg off the ground.

If you're unsure about using Mobilegs or have concerns about your mobility, please consult with a healthcare professional or physical therapist for personalized guidance. They can provide specific instructions based on your condition.

How do I sit or stand up using Mobilegs?

Standing up and sitting down with crutches requires careful coordination to maintain balance and prevent strain. Here's a guide for both actions:

Standing up.

  • Position the crutches: Place the crutches on either side of your body, within easy reach.
  • Scoot forward: If you're sitting on a chair or a bed, scoot forward to the edge to create space for movement.
  • Hold the handgrips firmly: Grip the handgrips of the crutches securely with both hands.
  • Push up: Push down on the handgrips and use your arms to lift your body off the seat.
  • Transfer weight to your Mobilegs: Transfer your weight onto your Mobilegs while keeping the affected leg off the ground.
  • Stand up: Push off with your arms and lift your body to a standing position using your Mobilegs for support.

Sitting down.

  • Position your Mobilegs: Stand close to the chair or surface where you plan to sit.
  • Turn around: If needed, turn around so that the back of your legs touch the surface of the chair or bed.
  • Back up: Back up until you feel the chair or bed against the back of your legs.
  • Hold the handgrips: Hold the handgrips of the crutches with a firm grip.
  • Bend at the hips and knees: Bend at the hips and knees while keeping the crutches under your arms for support.
  • Lower yourself: Lower yourself gently onto the chair or bed, using the crutches to control your descent.
  • Adjust position: Adjust your position as needed once you're comfortably seated.

Tips.

  • Take your time and move slowly to maintain stability.
  • If the chair is too low, you may use a higher chair or cushion to make sitting down and standing up easier.
  • Ensure that the crutches are securely placed when standing or sitting.
  • If you have specific mobility concerns or limitations, we recommend that you consult with a healthcare professional or physical therapist for personalized guidance. They can provide tailored instructions based on your condition.
